Do I need both books to play? ▼
Players only need the Player's Handbook to start. The DM Guide is for the Game Master. That said, we recommend both if you plan to run campaigns — the two books are written as a complementary set and reference each other throughout.
What format are the PDFs? ▼
All PDFs are DRM-free and come in two versions: a screen-optimized version (full colour, hyperlinked table of contents) and a printer-friendly version (reduced ink, greyscale). Both are included with every purchase at no extra cost.
Is Crown compatible with other systems like D&D 5e? ▼
Crown of Ash and Light is a standalone system — not a supplement or module for another game. It uses its own dice system and mechanics. Some DMs have run Crown mechanics as overlays on 5e, but the game was designed as a complete, independent experience.
How does the Crown Platform subscription work? ▼
The subscription gives you access to all digital tools — living character sheets, the VTT, Boss Tracker, Pressure Clock tool, and cloud sync — for $5/month. It renews monthly and can be cancelled at any time. Your data is preserved for 12 months after cancellation if you return.
Will there be physical/hardcover editions? ▼
